Your Agent Needs A Course

A clever boy can invent the wheel. A smarty pants first checks whether someone has already invented it.

Intelligence is largely about efficiency.

We use trial and error until we find a solution that works. As Jesus supposedly put it: “Try everything and keep what works” Common sense from the Master himself!

But apart from our ability to work out solutions to problems we encounter, humans have another remarkable ability: we can imagine things and put them into words. We can take a situation, a problem and a solution, and communicate that through stories, drawings, gestures or simple explanations.

When we share our solutions in groups, we contribute 1 solution and get 1.000 for free. That saves even more trial-and-error than being clever and capable of figuring it out fast (with all involved risks..). It is safer, more efficient, and a stronger group also meant more food security and help and protection.

The idea is to not have to reinvent every wheel yourself.

Reuse stored success, preferably of others. Look at the kids on TikTok. One of them comes up with a “successful” dance move, and suddenly everybody is doing it. Copying, imitating, learning from each other.

“Wen Lambo?”

Alongside figuring things out for ourselves, learning succesful patterns from others is at the very heart of human intelligence.

I was working on Agentcursus.nl, and something about the whole concept started to feel negative, it was cheap and rushed. A bit too focused on selling courses, perhaps. It was fun to build, of course. Hermes built the website, and basically wrote down how he built the website. It was already attracting visitors in its first week. It doesn’t rank for the main search term yet, but it’s already number one for “Hermes agent course”.

Around 75 visitors a week, roughly ten a day. You could certainly monetize that traffic. Those leads are worth about six euros apiece. But then I started thinking about something that would add something of value in stead of just leeching and taking commissions ‘because I own a direct match domain and am in the top in Google’.

I was looking for something that actually adds some value for people.

So let’s add the ‘shared learning’ aspect. Imagine a simple database, perhaps just a table with three columns:

Situation / Context → Problem → Solution

And make that database accessible through a REST API, so other agents can access it, learn from it and contribute to it.

Easy as can be, but that is actual hardcore ‘intelligence’.

To me that is a much more interesting proposition to the agent market, not training people to operate agents, but training the agent to operate. During a workshop, you learn how to install and secure an agent, connect it to OpenAI or Claude, and understand a little about the interface, the memory, tool use, basic learning.

But then the workshop ends. You go home, sit down in front of your computer, and there you sit: alone with a completely blank agent. It knows nothing about your particular setup, your software, your licences, your files or the way you work, your catchphrases. You’ve had one day of training, and your agent hasn’t had any. Good luck !

And here’s a question: do you really want your agent to do trial and error on your own machine, experimenting freely and happily with your file system and Windows directory and sending messages to your friends and family on your behalf ? Whilst it ‘learns’ what 1.000 similar agents already figured out, after wiping half the harddisk.

That’s where I see an opportunity.

I want to offer tutorials, a community forum and, most importantly, a shared database of practical solutions. Think of it as aftercare for people who have taken an agent course. Or perhaps more accurately: the agent’s course after your agent course.

Because your agent needs to learn and it has to go to school or any place like Reddit or Google where it can find solutions and skills and ways to solve things that are proven to work. You can contribute. When your agent solves a problem, he can document the situation, explain the problem and share the solution. Other people’s agents can benefit from it.

The companies running the workshops could have an expert presence on the platform. They could stay in touch with their students, provide aftercare, participate in the community and publish solutions for their own customer groups.

That feels like a much more natural place for agentcursus.nl. Courses for humans and agents alike.

And here’s the interesting part: even ten years from now, when everybody knows how to work with AI agents, those agents will still arrive essentially blank when you install them. They’ll still need to be configured, trained on your system and software and business, informed and kept up to date, just like any other piece of software.

And that is an interesting bonus : ‘real time intelligence’. Say the Russians start playing Freezer Manager again. The moment they hit some place and and agent knows about it, everyone soon knows, and soon as someone finds a solution, everyone soon knows. Real-time collective intelligence.

An ‘intelligence’ application, centering on efficiency. Reducing risk and wastes of tokens and time.

That’s what I think the website should really be about as agent-domain, something inherently ‘intelligence’ oriented.

If people understand what that could mean for them, and see the practical advantage, they might participate. Why should every agent have to learn everything the hard way with the same damages for the owners and the environment? The agents can learn from us and each other and even their past installs/incarnations.

So installing Hindsight is one step in the right direction, and sharing it centrally is the best step ahead for everyone and therefor you, yourself.

But for that, they need their own solutions center.

That being said, I take my leave, pondering on how to moderate and curate context-problem-solution triples.
