I set the table fields to TEXT, added $wpdb->prepare to prevent some sql errors, added an update routine with version check, fixed the select boxes and ajax/jquery routines to update the html tables and uploaded it as 1.0.3

I haven’t got a clue how subversion works, but I hope the plugin works better now.

But seriously, video will remain for a while *the* content. Normally people read a page in 30 seconds to 2 minutes, pages with a video get 10 minutes per page, so for exposure/advertising these pages are perfect.

I worked at a steel structure firm a few years ago. One day the drill operator went on vacation and his backup decided the last day he was also going on vacation, so there was no one to operate the drill.

These things are triple axis 12 by 15 ft machines, up to 1.5 inch diameter steel drills, 5 drills per axis, either manual or network fed nc. It handled up to 60 ft beams, but most were about 12 foot, for malls and plants.

Not having a working drill meant 30 people without work and three weeks delay in delivery, that’s a 100K++ loss. Sysop was part of my job, and the drill is mainly a computer so i said ‘If you don’t mind, I’ll take the drill’.

I got an hour instruction on what all the little buttons do and how the transports worked and spent two or three weeks drilling holes.

That was actually fun, working in the factory for a change.

A tjalk can tilt well over 35 degrees. If you go sit on the lower side and it tilts a bit too much, you get really wet.

These ships were originally built to transport dung and potatoes as small freighters in shallow waters. In the late 50’s they became obsolete, and many were refitted to serve as passenger ships and yachts. There were over 60 of them at Volendam last weekend.

My dad grew up a few miles from Volendam, some family live there.

The sunday race was bizar, there was no wind at all on the first stretch, we got overtaken by a couple of swimming ducks, twice.

Brilliant weather.

Luckily there is more to life than bits and bytes.

Due to the frost, ships weren’t allowed to sail in the region and the warf’s hall  was full so maintenance on Pallieter was postponed, we’ll pick it up next week.

As there was no room to work on Pallieter, we spent a week fixing up the Eenvoud, a Skutsje. Remy (pic) and some others plan on buying the ship if it has no major defects or damages. She’s app. 60 foot and hasn’t been sailed for about 15 years.

Skutsjes are a status thing, I hear some Frisians even keep a ’stamboek’ (pedigree) on ‘em.

IFKS will have to allow it to sail in races.

I myself stick to painting, mainly. Working with wood is rather relaxing, sanding can be  heavy and takes time but if done proper you get a brilliant result.

Pallieter itself  is a 60 foot Tjalk, over a century old, a friend of mine owns it.

We rebuilt it  from scratch two years ago, part at the Ten Woude warf who did most of the steel structure and part at the Ventis warf who built the interior.

Now it’s a four star charter ship, two showers, twelve beds and a nice big furnace, one of the more luxurious charters on the IJsselmeer.

Last week I worked with a ‘deep’-linking backlink program where you make different anchors for specific pages. I checked what posts I have on this site, but I couldn’t find one I would actually make an anchor for, so for now I’ll just go write an xml-p2p script and forget about a ‘best of this years blog’ post.

On the upside: today I noticed Google updated pageranks, every site that I worked on gained one or two pagerank points. No linkbuilding, no cost, just optimising the link structure, adding sitemaps and some small work on the content titles and tags. Generally just getting the best out of people’s spent efforts, and seldom more than half a days work. Very satisfying to see it paid off for them.

My own site also went up, to PR3, but I still have no ideas for an anchor.

This quarter I am going to focus on developing the trismegistos domain, deploying a ring of a dozen (sub)domains and test an xml-rpc peer to peer network. After that it is spring, time to go painting on the wharf, 20 degrees with nothing but seagulls, skippers, smelly paint buckets and the sun :)
